BACKGROUND: "WASHED ASHORE"
Ella Abetz is a young, ambitious woman who works at the small Harbor Inn in the even smaller German village of Eskildorf — a village still trembling after the scandal surrounding the suspected serial killer Hans Haas, who, due to legal complications, was recently released and now resides on the outskirts of town.
But one evening, as Ella leaves work and follows a familiar path home, she vanishes without a trace — and all eyes immediately turn to Haas. But the police never get the chance to question him. A call comes in about a house on fire, and in the ruins, they find none other than Haas himself. With Hans dead, the investigation stagnates. A week of frantic search efforts follows — K-9 units, drones, volunteers combing the countryside.
But hope fades more and more with each passing day.
Until one morning, when a small glass bottle washes ashore in the harbor, a lipstick-stained note tucked inside — a cry for help.
